Artificial Paradises

In the era of artificial intelligence, it has never been more necessary to focus on reality. In its third edition, the FotoDoc Festival aimed to discuss the developments brought by new technologies to the field of documentary photography. Can artificial intelligence help us better understand the problems and challenges of reality, also assisting in its transformation? To what extent does the rise of intelligent machines pose a risk or aid to human subjectivity?

Additionally, we sought to understand to what extent and in what manner documentary photography can represent artificial paradises, altered states of mind, escape valves in the face of a sometimes cruel reality, but also revealing other dimensions of the real.

The FotoDoc Festival 2024 invited the public and guests to reflect on the implications of new and ancient artificial paradises through Exhibitions, Encounters, and Author Talks held in the Bookstore around photobooks.

In the 2024 edition, the FotoDoc Photo Contest was consolidated, increasing to 20 winners, who were part of a prominent exhibition at the festival, placing emerging talents in dialogue with renowned photographers invited by the festival.

The FotoDoc Festival also promoted Workshops and Portfolio Reviews, contributing to the training of young photographers, and Artescambo, a blind exchange of photographic prints as well as drawings and engravings. From November 26 to 30, with exhibitions open until January 5, 2025, the FotoDoc Festival 2024 brought together photographers and photography enthusiasts at the Panamericana School of Art and Design.
