This photographic essay emerged from my desire to document and honor ancient cultures rapidly transforming in the face of advancing globalization and technology. Through journeys across remote regions, I photographed women from diverse ethnic groups—Pokot, Gabra, Turkana, Samburu, Kayapó, Yi, Intha, Red Dao, Hmong, Lachi, Giay, Dongria Kondh, and Desia Kondh—who stand as great guardians of their peoples.
They are the ones preserving, with extraordinary strength, ancestral practices, rituals, and wisdom. Even while inhabiting sometimes inhospitable lands, they resist modern world pressures and continue passing down the essence of their traditions from generation to generation.
In this work, I seek to document the historical and cultural significance of women who, with dignity and beauty, keep their people’s identity alive.
