When summer comes to Varanasi,
\nthe Ganga reveals a secret – a vast stretch of silt that emerges
\nlike a breath held too long. This No Man’s Land belongs
\nneither to the city nor its people, but to the river’s quiet rhythm.
\nPilgrims kneel where fish swam months before.
\nchildren’s footprints dissolve like promises in the damp earth.
\nThe crowded ghats, just across the water,
\nfeel suddenly distant.
\nHere, there is only sky, silt, and the rare gift of space
\n– to pray, to play, to exist without elbows or expectations.<\/h4>\n

The river gives this ground reluctantly,<\/p>\n

knowing the monsoon will reclaim it. Yet in its brief existence,
\nNo Man’s Land becomes everything to everyone.
\nIt is both a playground and a temple, a workplace and a refuge.
\nThe silt remembers nothing – not yesterday’s prayers,
\nnot tomorrow’s flood – and this is its mercy.
\nLike all sacred things, it appears when most needed,
\nThen it disappears before we think to thank it.
\nThe Ganga keeps no souvenirs, but those who walk this temporary
\nshore carries its memory in the dust between their toes.<\/p>\n

Young boys offer horse rides to pilgrims and practice their own riding skills when not hired.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Boatmen wait and call their customers back to the boat as they wander off too far into the desert.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The business flourishes in the most barren and remote landscapes, catering to religious tourists.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
The silt beach becomes a beautiful and nourishing ecosystem for both humans and animals, benefiting from the tourists and co-existing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
Kids from neighbouring villages turn the beach into a playground, flying and fighting kites. They collect the kites that they defeat and fight to collect them from each other.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
Two seemingly identical men walking towards the river to take a bath in complete sync.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"\"<\/a>
Women create these blinds themselves to change clothes in the open and leave them abandoned. These structures are ultimately consumed by the river during monsoon, polluting the river with waste left behind by the tourists, who were there to worship the river in the first place.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
