“Symbols” and ‘masks’ reveal principles, but at the same time conceal their deeper truths. The sense of religion, as a symbol of power, demonstrates the power of the “symbol” itself, while the “mask” becomes the ultimate artistic disguise for worship and expression. Instead of returning to the real, power becomes attached to the unreal through the mask.
Plato questioned the variability of the world of perception, seeing it as superficial and unable to reveal the essence of things. The illusion of the virtual swallows up the space of the real of life, making the individual more and more uncomfortable in accepting the imperfections of the real under the cover of false perfection.
