I invite you to my photo essay about the place where I come from and which shaped me: Jankowice, near Rybnik, rooted in Silesian tradition.
This project begins with a Silesian legend connected to this land, where religious faith has been as strong as the culture of work in Upper Silesia for centuries in Poland.
For over 14 years, I have been documenting the building of a church, a project in which my whole family is involved. Although I no longer live there every day, I visit often and record the progress. Through visual art, I tell the story of both the physical structure and the growth of this community.
These photographs were taken during Easter celebrations in 2025 – on Holy Saturday, during the blessing of the fire, which begins the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ and the victory over darkness. Light is the main theme and the foundation of this story. For me, it was a great photographic challenge, made possible thanks to the kindness of the host of this place and all the participants, many of whom I have known since childhood.
