Nascido em Manaus (Amazonas, Brasil), Raphael Alves estudou Comunicação Social com habilitação em Jornalismo na Universidade Federal do Amazonas (UFAM), Fotografia na Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL) e Artes Visuais no Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Comercial (SENAC). Obteve também o título de Master of Arts em Fotojornalismo e Fotografia Documental na London College of Communication / University of the Arts, em Londres (ING). O trabalho de Raphael já recebeu o Pictures of the Year Latin America - POYLatam (2017 e 2021) e o Pictures of the Year International POYi (2022), e a bolsa editorial da Getty Images (2021). Em 2023, seu trabalho foi vencedor do The Nature Conservancy Contest
